Intel presented today eight new models of the Xeon D15xx family, composed by System on Chip (SoC) dedicated to different kind of use. In particular, the new D15x1 and D15x7 found their place in the storage and in the networking market.

On a storage basis, Intel declares performances up to six times better than the previous platforms of the Avoton family (based on the Silvermont architecture), thanks also to the presence of Storage Acceleration Library, that provides hardware acceleration of cryptography, compression and data parity control, and of Storage Performance Development Kit. The latter is way more optimised than the native Linux driver in highly scalable environments.

Networking performances are up to five times better thanks to the new Xeon D solutions coupled with Data Plane Development Kit which promise better performances in packet forwarding.
Probably the most interesting side is related to the presentation of the new FM10000 Ethernet controller family: it offers the management of up to 36 Ethernet channel. Ports typology are 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 10Gbps and 25Gbps; ports can be grouped obtaining connections up to 40 or 100Gbps.

Lastly, the new X550 chipset must not be neglected; it’s a 10Gbit Ethernet solutions at a low price, with NBASE-T support for 2.5 or 5Gbps connections and 11W TDP that guarantee a low power consumption.
